Teaching Philosophy:

I have been teaching golf since 1968 (38 years) and I believed that foundational skills whereby the student can understand his/her own swing, posture, balance & grip are essential elements of a successful and effective golfing experience..

In the beginning I struggled in trying to help my pupils understand their own swing and noticed that while some gained good playing skills, many others had little or no obvious improvement.  I thought I was failing my students.

However, 26 years ago I became aware of the need for my students to have properly fitted equipment. So I began using my own style of using a lie board when doing lessons with my students, observing the effect of lie angle on direction and distance in their swings.  Although my methods were crude I felt I was going in the right direction and as I understood more the effects of lie angle on shot I was able to help my students gain greater understanding of their own swings.  I realised early on that only Jack Nicklaus could swing like Jack Nicklaus and only Ben Hogan could swing like Ben Hogan.

At this stage, I felt that there was still something missing in my teaching strategy. In 1974 I discovered the key.  (I stress this because there are many keys I am yet to discover).  This key was balance.  Thanks to one of my PGA colleagues my teaching would never be the same again.  I approach every lesson as a voyage of discovery for me and my students in order for them to achieve balance in their golf swing.

I use Henry-Griffitts to fit every customer in most of my lessons.  Because I have confidence in the accurate balance and feel of their equipment it cannot be overstated that motion is affected totally by equipment.  Poor balance in equipment equals poor balance in swing and motion.

Good balance = maximum power and control of balance flight and is the result of properly fitted equipment.
